Bad Shower Pan

I have a leaking 1950's tile shower. It looks like it's most likely the lead pan (we still need to do testing with a hose to eliminate the walls, etc.). I received an initial estimate of $3500 to have it replaced. I would probably just put in a new bath before doing this repair.

We just purchased this house and I was hoping to do other updating before tearing out the bathroom. The tile and everything else is in great shape. Is there any other type of option I can try. Would an insert work?

Thanks!

Where is it leaking, what is leaking????? Lead pans do not leak, unless they were punctured. They can leak above the pan, and at the drain, but the pan itself rarely leaks. Is the grout on the floor tiles sound?? Most often, the leak is above the floor line at the first few courses of wall tile, and thru poor floor grout.
