Tub Faucet not Turning

I've tried turning the tub faucet counter-clockwise so I could replace it, but it won't budge. When I start putting on the pressure the hot & cold knobs start shifting in the wall and I'm afraid of breaking something. What is going to happen if I start torquing the heck out of the faucet? Is it possible to break a pipe? Or is it possible that I could damage something else?

BTW, I've looked for a screw on the underside of the faucet and didn't find one. If it doesn't have a screw, then I do have to turn it in order to remove it, right?

It is unclear from your post what you are trying to change. Is it a single lever faucet or two knob faucet?
