Ceramic Tile Adhesive Removal

I am currently remodeling a bathroom, including the removal of a shower stall and its surrounding ceramic tile. Knowing that it will be hard to match tile color that is 30+ years old, I want to be able to use some of the removed tile in other areas of the bathroom that may need to be patched, where fixtures and a vanity and such are being moved. I want to remove the tile adhesive from the back of the original tile.

Is there any easy way to remove the adhesive? Any solution that is available that the tile can be soaked in to assist in removal? Or do I just have to scrape and chip off the adhesive, risking breakage of the tile?

Thanks!

No replies yet. Try calling a tile shop.

I have scraped off the brittle old adhesive already on many tiles, so I could reuse. Tedius, and nerve wracking.
