broken knob-stem on oven

The temperature-control knob on my oven slips onto a plastic stem. The stem is broken. Is there a way to fix the stem without replacing the entire, very expensive control module? I tried to glue it, but probably made it worse by gunking up the broken ends of the stem.

How much of the post is sticking out of the control modual? If there is maybe a 1/2" or so, I would try to make a sleeve of some kind to rejoin the two halfs. The shaft is a 1/2 round shape? A sleeve w/ 2 set screws would work well. If there is nothing sticking out, you may have to bite the bullet and buy the control. Try to get a universal controler w/ a metal shaft for sure!
