spacing between countertop and upper cabinet

Hello

I just installed my new lower kitchen cabinets and plan to install the uppers Tuesday. Can someone tell me what the standard or required minimum spacing is between the caountertop surface and the base of the upper cabinets? Also, do you include the reveal of the base or just from the actual floor of the cabinet? My cabinet maker included a nice three inch ornate reveal so that my surface lighting will be well hidden. Thanks in advance for any replies

I don't know of any minimum requirements, but the industry standard is 18". This allows room to easily get appliances in and out. Shorter people may opt for setting the cabinets lower. Many cabinets come with a built in recess for under cabinets light, so the bottom of the cabinet is the bottom.

Thanks Bill.

How about the spacing between the range and the hood? We are installing a microwave-hood combo that will be hanging from the underside of the cabinet over the range.

Recommendations are usually included in the micro directions. Can't recall what that is, but more that 18", follow manufacturers suggestions.
