Moen Teardrop Single Lever bath is backwards
I recently purchased a condo and renovated it. I'm not sure if this problem exhisted before or not as I had never used the bath and someone else took the teardrop knob assembly off. When trying to put the know back on, I'm confused on how exactly the thing goes back together. If I put the teardrop @ 6 o'clock as moen states it should be, when I turn the water to hot it is cold and vice versa. If the teardrop is @ 12 o'clock, the water comes out properly but the off is at the top not the bottom as stated on the face plate. Also the white plastic part seems to float around and has no connection to anything! can someone give me steps on how to re-install the fixture knob correctly?

Nowadays, single handle shower controls that operate 'backwards' have either been plumbed with the hot and cold pipes reversed or the internal cartridge in the shower valve has been installed backwards. It's pretty easy to fix this - turn off the water supply to the valve, remove the faceplate and retainers to expose the internal valve cartridge, looking at the exposed end of the cartridge rotate it 180 degrees (like looking at clock hands going around), and reassemble everything.
The valves are made with a cartridge that does this so that back-to-back showers in gyms, etc. can be plumbed easier and then the cartridge(s) flipped on one side of the wall.

Ahhh durn, if you had asked this last year I'd be able to answer it. Dunno if the previous post is the answer, could be. I had the same issue when I hooked up my shower in VA. I looked and looked and looked, couldn't figure it out. Knew the cart was in right, finally called Moen help line and the lady said "yep, happens all the time". Had it fixed in 2 min. Pretty sure I didn't mess with the cartridge tho. May want to give them a call.
