Grouting "tumbled" tiles - HELP!

My wife wants to use this "tumbled" tile for the backsplash in our kitchen. It has tones of little cracks and holes and when I mentioned this tile earlier I was told to make sure I fill them - doesn't that kind of defete the purpose of them?

I was trying to figure out how to spreed the grout so I WOULDN'T end up filling those holes.

Any thoughts, tips, experiances on how to deal with this would be much appreciated...

If you dont fill those holes with grout, they'll be full of all kinds of mold, mildew and other crap in no time at all. There will be no way to keep that tile clean short of scrubbing it with a toothbrush once a week.
