well a job that i thought was only going to take an hour has turned into a project or so i think... hopefully with some help it won't be as bad... I have a shower that has dual faucets, the hot side valve seats needed to be replaced because the shower was dripping and no matter how hard you turned the handle it would still drip. The problem is this..... first I took off the handle. Then unscrewed the the next nut, almost looked like a compression fitting of some sort, could be wrong though. At this point shouldn't the valve stem pull right out? its loose but almost looks the the valve stem and body is all one piece? after the first nut was removed i even tried putting the handle back on and turn it loose and still nothing...... any suggestions?

With my bathroom demo came a lot of unexpected problems. This is just one of them:wall: After demoing the concrete subfloor, I've discovered these wooden slats over the joists. I've also discovered all these crazy pipes running in between these slats. Some of these slats are not even supported at some ends. I want to put down tile in the 5x5 area left over from the tub. I would have liked to remove the old slats and put down large sheets of plywood, possibly 3 layers of 3/4" T&G. However, I don't know what I'm suppose to do about all the different heights of the pipes. I've though of laying down sheets of plywood cut out where the pipes are, then when there is enough height, lay a sheet to cover everything. However some of the pipes are higher than others. What should I do about some of these problem areas? Here's some details and possibilities I've gone over in my head: -Slats are 3/4" thick. -Distance from the slats to the height of finished floor I'd like is 2 1/2", so 3 1/4" from joists to ideal floor height. -Tile is about 3/8" thick. -Huge problem area behind the toilet flange, with a pipe running behind it. It's 2 inches thick sitting on the slat. This leaves me room to basically put the tile on top of it. -Should I fill this area in with concrete or some type of patching filler? -Do I need to raise the finished floor height then?
