Shower Pan

I am about to attempt my first custom shower pan. Any advice or instructions would be appreciated. How do I make sure the shower floor ends up flush with the drain, or should it be slightly lower?

Why not concrete for mortar bed?

I hired a nice tile craftsman to do my bathroom and he poured the shower pan with aggregate concrete and not the crumbly mortar I expected.

Is that ok to subsitute?

If not, I want to rip it out befored its hard, so please post your replies promptly!

Cheers,
Brian

This installation will be fine, as long as the tile setter installed a proper membrane on top of the first preslope bed.
