square peg thru a round hole

I am replacing my old shower door. For the side posts/jambs I need to drill screw holes. Instructions say to drill a 3/16" hole, which I have done, and then insert provided wall anchors. There is no way that those anchors will fit in those holes. I have drilled one hole at 1/4". I could probably get an anchor into that hole if I hit it with a hammer - Should I proceed?
Any drawbacks to making hole larger than what specs call for ? Although I do not see any other alternative. I don't believe using a heemr to put an anchor thru the 3/16" hole will even work.

Thanks

What kind of anchor are you attempting to use? If it is a spring toggle, stop. They are referring to the plastic inserts that came with your door. And, no, you shouldn't use a hammer to do anything near ceramic tile. Let us know what type of fastener you are attempting to use.
