Did the home inspection yesterday on a place we're hoping to buy, and we and the inspector both noticed the blistered paint on the wall adjacent to the kitchen range. The range is literally adjacent to the wall, with no countertop or other clearance on that side of the range. Inspector recommended adding a heat shield, particularly if we upgrade the range to gas (for the latter, I'm tempted to move the wall or do some wholesale rearrangement of the kitchen layout, but that's an entirely different thread...) Sticking with the electric range for now, what sort of heat shield would work and maintain a good visual appeal to the kitchen (i.e. a big steel plate might look a bit odd)?

I will gut my bathroom, removing commode,vanity & bathtub. I will then install the new tub. Once that is done, is it Ok to then tile the floor? By doing this, it would eliminate a lot of tile cutting. The new vanity will sit on the new tile, as will the commode. My question is that by setting the commode on the tile, will I still be able to get the tight fit needed? Or is it recommended to set the commode on the concrete and then tile around it? Thanks
