Window inside shower stall needs replacing!

This question is in regard to a rental property; a.k.a.; MONEY PIT!
Whoever decided a window inside a shower stall was a good idea?
The window inside the small shower/tub of a 1950's rambler needs to be replaced. Of course, the window on the interior side is partially on sheet rock and partially on tile! We have no experience with tiling, but it needs replacing too, so we might have to learn. If we leave the window the same size it currently is, we can't install a tub surround, which would be the easiest fix.
If we change the size of the window, we have to change the exterior which is an old metal siding and we're not going down that road, because although it's ugly, it's in good shape.
One estimate for a replacment (30.75 x 26.5 vinyl) was $500 including installation We're open to suggestions!

Vinyl windows can be ordered to 1/4" of your opening. DO NOT install a wood window in a shower, asking for problems.
