Putting moulding on kitchen cabinets...

Hi everyone!

Glad to be here.

I'm not much of a do it yourselfer, but hoping to learn lots

I have older laminate (I think) kitchen cabinets. We can't afford to purchase new ones so I was thinking of trying to gussy them up by adding some sort of mouling to them and repaint them.

Any advice / tips or maybe before and after pictures you might be able to share?

I don't really have much of a clue as to what I'm doing

Thanks in advance!

Hi pbear8 and welcome!

Can you show you some images of the cabinets, kitchen, etc?
You can post them at photobucket.com and post here the link

First, do a really thorough cleaning of the cabinets. You may find they do not need refinishing.

Painting laminate is not a good idea, not an easy thing to do and have the paint stick.

Molding/trim is always a good way to accent what is already there.

Okay here they are.

The first pic is when we first got the house. They were an off white colour.

Here we decided to paint them

We do have hardware on them, but I can't find a pic of it with the hardware on.

This is what the hardware looks like:

I want to put some kind of moulding on them and repaint them a lighter colour again.

The walls are going to be something like this (not my place I Googled the image )

This is what I'd do--> see image below

- (Door of the right) You can try to harmonize and blend colors--> in this case, paint the cabinets following the walls' shades--> add a molding in the same color
- (Door of the left) Keep the cabinets in the same color and just add loldings following the walls shades
