Good afternoon,
I would like to know first, whether or not I can tile over existing tile, and if yes, how I would do this.
If you think removing the old tile is better, could you give me some tips on how to best remove the old tile and thin-set.
Second, upon removal of the tub how best to fill the gap in preparation for tiling.
Thanks,
Marques

If the old tile is over drywall, tear it all out and install 1/2 backer board, hardibacker or cement board. Not sure what you mean by removing the tub and a gap. Your first statement indicated you were just tiling, and there should be no gap after tiling. Backer board does come down over the tub lip, but not down on the tub wall. The should be a small gap there to reduce wicking.

You need to tear out everything back to the studs. Trying to tile over what you have wont work. Here's a link to get you started. Check it out, come back and ask questions.
