IKEA Butcher Block
I'm interested in getting the 1 1/2" butcher top, and theirs is priced very competitively! Any one have this countertop, or any suggestions?
I'm also planning on staining and sealing it, and installing an undermount sink. It doesn't look like its side grain, but I won't be cutting on it either way. Just moderate counter use, with a good finish such as Waterlox. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the info!
Interestingly, one article actually goes on to say that butcher block can't be sealed or varnished! As I've mentioned, it will serve its purpose just as a countertop, so I don't see any harm in varnishing it to keep it waterproof, and easy to maintain. I will be varnishing both sides too, so that there is no damage from below, and so that the wood can't dry out and crack.

The problem I see is the fact that all these products can be toxic if they touch the food
I understand that you are not going to cut food over the butcher block , however, I'd use only natural oils and I'd avoid any chemical product over my kitchen's counters
