Should I remove Mastic from shower seams?

I found a discussion emphasizing the necessity to use a "true" thinset mortar when tiling a shower. Now that I understand why, I absolutely will. My concern is this: I used fiberglass tape to join my cement-board seams and, (before I learned about mastics), I strengthened them with Acrylpro adhesive. Now that I've decided to use thinset mortar, do I need to scrape off the mastic and re-tape the seams, or will covering it with thinset protect it from disintegrating?

Thanks!

mastic should not be used in a shower. Remove it and use a good quality modified thinset to tape the seems and set the tile.
