Contact paper?

Our new apartment has a HIDEOUS sink from the 70's that just ruins the entire bathroom... I was looking up contact paper as a solution, but the countertop and sink are the ugly granite material. Can I use contact paper for a sink? Might be a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find anywhere if you can get contact paper wet or not. If not, do you think it'd be ok to use it for the area surrounding the sink?

Welcome to the forums. Be careful what you do in an apartment. I know it's ugly, but it ain't yours. Changing things could make you liable for the changes if the landlord doesn't like them.
