Replace Laminate Countertop or Glue on Laminate?
I want to change the color of my laminate countertop. On a shoestring. A very tight shoestring. I was hoping the salvage yard would be cheaper, but they want $8.90 per ft, plus about $15 for any mitre cut or glued endcap. The Habitat Restores didn't have more than a 10 ft section and I need about 18 feet total.
Is it possible to just buy the laminate and cut it to fit, and glue it over the existing laminate? All my edges are square.

Most likely you won't find a piece longer than 10 in length. Look at the one you got real close. I am sure there is a joint somewhere. Big Orange sells the 10 ft right and left miters for a little over $100. End caps are $12 or so. A 10' straight to finish the long one is another $100, so it would cost about $350 to replace yours.
You can replace the laminate if you rough up what you have and are willing to buy a laminate trimmer and bit ($100) and the contact cement necessary for the adhesion, AND are willing to remove your countertops in order to bevel all the edges. Lotta work.
