Red face Cost to install kitchen tile

I need to buy 23 12 inch squares and 18 narrow fancy tiles to go between the squares. Just had quartz countertops installed.
I already bought these tiles at Lowes
Total cost almost $300. The installer wants $600. Is this a reasonable rate? My husband who has built his own shed, did our own basement, (bathroom, all walls, and electrical work) and many other projects says we should do it ourselves.
Is putting tile up hard to do?
I know we will watch videos if he wants to do this.
Or just allow the installer to have it done.

Backsplashes are probably the easiest tile job to DIY, but just because its easy doesn't mean it will look good when you are finished. If you haven't done it before and you can afford to, I would go ahead and pay someone to get the best result.

$600 for less than 30 s/f of tile is a ripoff. Is this a Lowe's contractor?

In any case tiling is an fairly easy DIY job. Using 12" tiles on a wall makes it a bit tougher. With smaller tiles you could use mastic but I don't know how well they would hold larger tiles.

This guy does work for Lowes but does tile on the side. I said $300 for the tile squares, it is acutually $400. I suppose I better check who else does tile. thanks
