Backsplash Question

We currently have black granite countertops with a 5" backsplash lip made of the same granite in our kitchen. Is it possible to install a tile backsplash above the lip or will I have to take the lip completely off and then put the backsplash on starting at counter level? Would it have to be the same thickness as the existing lip? Has anyone ever done this? Or will it look bad? We are doing small (hopefully) inexpensive updates in hopes of putting our house on the market in the spring and want to do the least work as possible. Thank you.

You can definitely do it without taking the back splash off. The only question is will it look better. Have you bought a couple of samples and put it up against the granite.

No Pro in either design or install...but there's no reason you can't, if you find a type of tile that will look good. Plenty of tile walls are installed above laminate or solid surface counters with integrated backsplashes as you have.

You'll want to look a size, color, pattern, etc to find the best match...but no reason why not.
