Backsplash help

I am doing a tile backsplash. There is a 4 inch backsplash the same as the counter which is caulked. Do I need to remove that caulk before tiling?

Welcome to the forums! If the caulk interferes with the installation of the tile, yes. Most often it does, but if it doesn't interfere, it's OK.

That joint will not hold grout, so you will have to caulk afer the tile is done. There are colored caulks to match the top as well as the tile, pick one. What he said, if the tile will not lay flat, trim the old caulk.
