Connecting to old recessed sink pipe

Hello all,

Im trying to connect a new bathroom sink w/ new pvc to the old drain pipe. The problem is the pipe is recessed about in inch in the wall. Theres maybe 1/16" room around it and beyond the 1/8" tile is some kinda thick concrete. Any ideas?

Hi,

Looks like black abs pipe, is that correct?

You need to glue a new piece of abs in there. Use abs cement.

What I am worried about is why the old piece fell out?

Are the insides of that ell in the wall rough? There is a chance it can leak if the pipe does not seat properly. Because its not a new fitting. You may want to glue the heck out of it.

It may be cast Iron??? That is more difficult.

Is there access behind this bath where the fitting is? Instead of breaking the tile IMO the pipe should be replaced properly. Sheet rock is easier to repair then tile.

If its beyond you scope call a pro to take a look.

Its cast iron

The original connection had a plastic compression ring and screwed to the drainage assembly. The connection was rusted and broke (i think) the edge is rough and irregular -there is no access behind either (the other side of the wall is another bathroom)
