Could someone please offer some advice in how to re-apply the caulking behind the surround. It has removed itself enough that we are able to caulk but what do you use to apply pressure so that it sticks to the walls?

If I understand your question, the walls of your tub surround are pulling away from the sheetrock behind them? This should not have been applied with caulking, but rather with adhesive, something like Liquid Nails. You could probably reattach it with this type of adhesive. Use 1X2's and 1X4's wedged between the walls to apply pressure while it cures. I think you may run into problems though with the condition of the sheetrock behind this surround. Since it has pulled away from the walls, it has gotten moist or wet, and has probably been destroyed.
