Added support for this island bar counter?

I recently installed a kitchen island setup just like the one pictured except mine is longer. The unsupported bar counter area for the one pictured is about 48" x 24", while mine measures 79" x 24".

The granite guy just came out for a template and told me that I need additional support for the bar area. He said that two posts would work, but I REALLY don't want to use posts.

Anyone know how else I can add support? I was thinking "L" brackets, but since both ends of the counter are supported by cabinets I assume the middle of the counter is the real issue.

Build a header between the cabinets. That way the post will be against the back of the cabinets & not really seen.

Hi, Pulpo. What do you mean by a "header" between cabinets?

I was thinking of routing the cabinet tops and inserting a flush-fitting steel plate that would run the entire length of the bar, as well as a couple steel plates running shortways in the middle of the bar making a "T". I'm not sure if that would be overkill, though. I may be better off with a few 20" "L" brackets. without the crossbars (so no one's knees get banged up).

A header is a cross bar. Each end would be on the top of a post.
