Laminate Countertop Replacement

I want to replace my u-shape laminate kitchen countertops. What's the going trend? Is using preformed countertops with 45 degrees already cut OK? I suspect having a cabinet shop fabricate a large u-shaped countertops would be quite costly but I may do that if exposed seams are definitely a bad idea. Thanks for your input.

Laminate countertops aren't all that expensive and the big box stores can do a good job with these.

The going trend? Granite.

My personal preference? Quartz.

Thanks. I wasn't sure about those mitered cuts, which is what I have now.

If either part of the U is used as a bar, there are special pieces that must be incorporated. If it is enclosed on all three sides, then you're good to go. I have removed all my laminate and installed marine plywood, concrete backer and 12" slate look tile without a grout line (or small), then banded it with oak. Rugged and looks good.

Laminate Countertop Replacement

Do you find Lowe's, Home Depot to be comparable than say going with a local cabinet or countertop shop? Thanks.
