Need help waterproofing shower and tub surround

My contractor installed Durock around tub and shower stall with no waterproofing behind and taped the seams with regular drywall mud/plaster. The shower has a custom sized one piece formed waterproof pan. What is the best way to proceed before I tile? Redguard, kerdi, or some type of waterproof system? Do I need to remove the plaster and apply thin set mortar to seams first?

remove the drywall/plaster compound, thinset won't adhere well to it. you could use either redguard or the kerdi system. what you don't want is 2 vapor barriers. is there a vapor barrier under the cbu and over the insulation?
