Bath remodel

I am going to remodel my bathroom and I've started to look at what I have to work with to identify the problems. So far I have one...

pictures here: bath - Imgur

The top picture has a black pipe that I need to identify. If I follow the pipe to the right in that picture, it goes to a vent on the roof. From this picture the pipe goes in the space behind where the shower head comes out (middle picture). In that space it goes from floor to ceiling I am betting.

I need to know what that is so I can understand how/if I can move it. The tile in the shower (middle picture) is all coming out and I'd like to make the shower bigger by removing the wall where the shower head is. If I can move the shower head back I can gain ~15".

The last question I have is about the last picture with the vent. If I can move the shower out towards the vent I can add more room to the shower. I don't think I can move this vent although, if I had to, I could put in a smaller vent. Does any code exist that says how far a shower must be from a vent like this? I don't want to go up against it all the way but I'd like to get as close as I reasonably can.

Thanks.

I don't see how you can remove the wall where the shower head is. All the pipes & the shower body are there. If there is a closet behind it, you might be able to do it but then you will lose the closet space.

You need to knock a hole in the wall behind the shower to see what else is in there besides plumbing and vent pipes (black pipe). That will let you know if you can even consider what you are wanting to do. I did a remodel with exactly the same situation, opened up a hole and there was nothing back there. We made the shower bigger.
