Kerdi board or wonder board for a first timer?

We are remodeling a bathroom and will be tiling tub surround. What does everyone suggest for a beginner? Kerdi system has excellent reviews so should I....

1. Install sheet rock and use the thing flexible Kerdi product
2. Install 1/2" wonder board and flexible Kerdi product
3. Install Kerdi (foam) board

Curious what everyones thoughts would be? We are using 12x12" tiles with a "RecessIt" shelf in the shower.

I suggest a 6 mil plastic vapor barrier covered with 1/2" cement board. It's quicker, easier and probably cheaper.
