Installing ceiling light/vent in bathroom. Vent to roof or side of house?

I have an old home (1930) and the bathroom doesnt have a vent or overhead light. I figure installing a vent/light is the perfect fix. As long as I can run power without having to patch the wall to snake, I am ok (I dont want to repaint he bathroom and I dont have the paint to match). I think running the vent to the roof is the best option but a contractor gave me an option of running it out the wall by the window.

Is this a good option? I assume he means put a vent on the side of the house but I prefer not to do that bc the brick is in such good shape.

Thru the roof would be the best application and that way the brick would be left untouched.
