drywall around shower repair
#1

I need to repair the drywall at top of shower. I have a fiberglass tub/shower combo and the top of the shower only goes a little more than 6ft. The wall area is getting wet when showers are done and couseing damage. Can some sorta backsplash be installed like you may do in a kitchen? Ther is no tile only wallboard.
Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you might have the wrong kind of paint in this area.
First of all, you'll have to very closely examine the damaged area. It might be necessary to remove the damaged drywall. If so, replace with green or blue board that is moisture resistant.
Next, prime and paint the new section with a good quality alkid paint. This is similar in protection properties as oil based paint. I realize that it's harder to work with and takes longer to dry. However, latex paint just isn't the answer in a shower area. There's just too much moisture. The latex paint is porous and will allow moisture to penetrate to the wall behind.
Hope this helps.

OOPS, I may have spelled it wrong. Believe that might by Alkyd paint. It's today's version of oil based paint. It should be available anywhere paint is sold.
