Basement bathroom rebuild
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and I hope you gives can provide me advice.
I am new to an old house that has basement and a bathroom in the basement.
While fixing something else found mold on the whole bath structure so I had to take it all out.
I am redoing it but I am not very clear on the requirements for the shower. It used to have a fiberglass pan (now gone) the base is the concrete subfloor.
the space is kind of limited both high/width and I am planning on putting custom/tile pan. In all videos I check, the recommend to put one layer of paper > Wire mesh > layer of mortar > layer of rubber liner > layer of mortar again > then tile.
I am new to this. and I am not clear on this:
- what is the purpose of the felt paper?
- Do I really need the first layer of mortar?
- Do I need to glue the rubber liner?how can I make it to not slip later on if not glued? (cannot be nailed.. so ? )
Thanks
