We do Raclette grilling quite a bit. The top of our non-stick raclette grill has been flaking, so it's time to replace it.
Some Raclette grills come with granite cooking surfaces, so I picked up a piece of broken granite an appropriate thickness, and cut it to the perfect size.
My question: Is there a sealer on this? Or is it just very smooth granite? I'm trying to figure out if this is food safe, or if I should grind past this.
Here is the top & bottom:

If this piece came from a granite fabricator that makes countertops, then chances are it's sealed. Just heat it up with nothing on it, and when it quits smoking, you're good to go. Granite can take the heat but the sealer won't.
Good luck

update: I put it out on the grill at about 500* for several hours, and it didn't smoke, so hopefully that means that no sealer was used. So, I washed it, oiled it, and we cooked on it last night - it worked great with no funky smells.
Thanks for the help.
