Rain Shower Installation

I am considering switching out my working but aging Moen shower faucet for one with lots of pizzazz, like the one shown here,

or something of that nature, but would like some feedback from those experienced with this type of hardware before I commit to doing this.

Is this made in China?
What is the quality of this brand?
How do LED lights perform over time?
How good are "ceramic" valves compared to brass valves? And this one in particular?

Just looking at the name I would say it's obvious where it comes from. I would be leary of that faucet. LED lights can work but you've got electronics in close proximity to water so I would expect them to die at some point. Where will you get replacement parts?

This product comes with a standard shower valve without scald prevention feature.

There is no mention of volume/pressure requirements for the 12" shower head and LEDS powered by a dynamo is just something else to fail.

Ceramic valve components are common but considering where it was made I wonder about the quality.

I would pass on this.

Thanks for your comments, guys. I had the same misgivings but was wondering if anyone had tried these units and had good success with them. Doesn't look like it.

Want to build a new walk in shower...couple of questions

Hi, this may be a dumb question and I think I already know the answer. I want to replace my existing pre-fab (ie leaky piece of crap) shower with a nice, tiled walk in. Problem is, the footprint for the new shower will extend onto the existing tile. Do I need to remove the tile under the new shower or can I just level it out? If I do remove it, how is the best way to do so without destroying the rest of the floor? It's a tiny bathroom and the tiles are 18". I can't see a way to make it work removing whole tiles, I'll need to make a cut about 3/4 through one row. Also, I will need to move the fixtures about 3 feet from their current location. Can I do this with flexible water line or do I need to get a plumber to move the metal pipes? Thanks for your help.Read More

Tileless shower walls

I'm modernizing my home and I'm going for a completely tileless/concrete look (two white concrete bathrooms and two gray concrete bathrooms). The showers and one of the bathtubs are going to have a built in look to them. The goal is to have the walls of the bathroom match the walls of the showers and the roman style shower/tub. I'm looking for something to use as a finishing for the walls of the shower and roman tub. The shower walls will be cement backer board. On top of that, I'll install kerdi membrane for waterproofing. On top of that, I'm looking for something that I can pick up locally here in Southern Florida. Would it be possible to just skim coat all of the walls in the bathroom with thinset to make it all look the same? Something like a VersaBond that I can pick up at Home Depot? Before somebody mentions something like lime plaster, it's very hard, if not impossible to find down here in Southern Florida except for Diamond Veneer Plaster. I'd have to get it shipped in and shipping alone is a huge cost due to the weight. Any advice on what I can use to finish these tileless walls would be greatly appreciated.Read More
