Gut before or after?

I am remodeling my bathroom and i wanted to gut it out before i had the inspector out for his first walk through to save time. Would that be ok or should i leave it as is until he does his first walk through then gut it?

What would he be inspecting? Normally you don't call for an inspection until the work is done - or the portion that needs inspection.

As Marksr says, work must be done first before inspection is done. You could present your plans to an inspector or the to the town building permit department to have them approve the plan. But you will still need to have the work inspected after it's done.

As I understood it, the lady at the desk told me what they would be needing for the permit and said once it is turned in they would do a walk through but maybe I misunderstood her. So no one has had a building inspector do a walk through before starting work?

Again, no. What would they inspect?
However, you might want to hire a "professional" to look at your current setup and advise you as to what to expect and what you might want to re-work or change.

The only inspection I've ever had before work was done was a site inspection and that shouldn't apply to you. A site inspection is where they come out to verify your structure will meet all set back requirements. Only for new bldgs/additions.

Some jurisdictions do have strange regs so it might be prudent to call the inspector's office just to verify what/when needs inspecting.
