Lining up duct for microwave

Hi All, is there a trick to lining up the exhaust duct for through the wall venting, it seems like guess work once the unit is rotated into place on the wall mount bracket.

I usually use a long drill bit and drill a small test/pilot hole all the way through. It makes it easy to drill from both directions as the pilot drill marks the center. And, if the hole ends up being in a bad location it's relatively easy to patch the little hole and relocate as needed but most often the bad pilot hole ends up in the area being removed for the vent so no patching is needed.

I am more concerned about the duct work lining up in the back so there is a tight connection, there is no way to really know.

Use a piece of cardboard or heavy paper to make a template of the back of the microwave and use it to position the exhaust opening in the correct place on the wall.
