Kitchen sink replace with new counter - what size?
I have a 1970 built kitchen with old basic plain cabinetry made from birch I think. I want to replace the counter, but want to buy a sink first.
Is there anything special I should know before buying a sink with regard to size and stuff?
I think I have a standard stainless steel sink right now although it's old and a top mount 2 sink type.
I want to replace it with an undermount good quality sink, but I'll need a new counter top for the undermount since mine is a cheap formica counter from the 70's. If I'm replacing the counter top as well, do I have to worry about size or can I just pick out a sink now and get the counter top later?
Are they all pretty much a standard 31 inches or so?
I plan on having a new counter installed in the spring, but want to buy the sink as a xmas gift.
the inside of the counter underneath measures about 34 1/2 inches.
the sink on there now is 33 by 22 inches from OUTER corners of the top mount sink.
1. Is there a big diff between 18 vs 16 gauge steel? I want at least 18.
2. Does brand make a big diff?
3. $200 for a "good" sink?
what else to consider?
thansk

The sink dimensions must fit the sink cabinet.
