Copper Backsplash

I think I want a copper backsplash behind the stove. I have looked at a lot of different options. I've looked at tin ceiling tile, real sheet of copper, the sheets of copper with different patinas.... I don't like the look of copper after it darkens with a patina. I have a copper sink and I like it, but wish it didn't get so dark or turn green around the edges.
I'm not the type to try to keep it shiny like it was when it was new. I'm fine with how the sink is, but would like something for a backsplash behind the stove that will not change color, is super easy to keep clean and can handle the heat from the stove. I don't know if I want a sheet of copper or some sort of tile. I know I don't want anything too busy. I would never go with plastic that looks like copper(not that it could be used by the stove by heat even if I liked it). Also, there are so many looks and color variations of copper, copper color tin etc., I don't know what would look best.




I have no idea what to do and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

What you do is what you want to see. We can't help you with that.

Stainless steel makes a great backsplash behind a stove. I don't believe I'd consider or recommend using copper as that will be hard to keep clean and will change color with grease on it. Tile may be the best way to go.

Copper oxidizes and darkens so it will always require periodic polishing to maintain that shiny look. It can be lacquer or clear coated but that won't hold up well behind a stove and in the end will end up looking worse. So, if you don't want to do the work to clean and polish copper then I would cross that off the list.

I would consider tile. You have a dizzying array of options to choose from. I can't see from your photo what your vent hood is but I'd just start looking online and in stores and noting what you like.

 

I would suggest that if you want something that looks like copper, you should look into metal laminates. Formica's line is called DecoMetal, and Wilsonart has a Decorative Metals Collection. One of them would surely have something that would trip your trigger.

Laminates may not stand up to heat nearly as well as a real metal surface would, so whatever product you choose, be sure it (and the adhesive) are both rated for use near your appliances at whatever temperature range constitutes "normal use".

But I bet in the long run, a metal laminate might be easier to care for.
