How do I remove laminate adhesive from plaster wall?

I removed a laminate backsplash from a plaster wall, but the laminate adhesive remains. I want to install tile backsplash and need to know the best way to remove the adhesive (dark brown substance, probably applied in the 1960s).

It's going to have to be removed mechanically, scrape as much as even if you have to gouge into the plaster.

When you install the tile, the thinset will fill smaller voids so it doesn't really even need to be repaired.

You could try warming it up with a hair dryer to see if it will scrape off easier.
