Is the best way to vent a bathroom fan through the soffit?

I would imagine it has less chance of rain getting in it or around it (than a roof vent) and is less obvious on the outside (than a through-the-wall vent). Condensation would even drip down and out, rather than down and back in...

Would this be right?

Thanks,
Mark

Cool

Mark,
As long as you vent the moisture OUTSIDE, it doesn't matter how you do it, and yep, water flows downhill.
Good Luck!

I am not sure venting an exhaust fan thru a soffit is a good idea, especially if the soffit has vents for roof ventilation in them. Remember, soffit vents are meant for air intake, which means the moist air from the fan exhaust will be sucked into the soffit vents and deposited in your attic.

Hmm, thats a good point...

Main reason for a non-roof based vent was because I have an old wood shake roof that is too delicate to have much changes made. However, I'm on the verge of re-roofing, so I may be able to vent skywards after all.

I would love to hear peoples ideas on what material I might use to place between the bottom of the wooden posts and the roof of my building when I start to build my roof deck. The roof is covered with a silver paing, and in the hot summer the entire roof is very soft, I dont want the wooden posts to damage the roof. THanks !!
