Formica; Vertical vs. General Purpose

I am building a craft table, 40" x 60" and want to know if I can use vertical grade formica on the top. It will be used to cuit out fabric and other materials.

I would just use plywood and cover it with some sort of padding. I used the felt rug padding from Home Depot. Not sure if they still sell it, but probably something similar. Then cover that with some canvas that gets stapled under the plywood. Now you can not only cut fabric but you can pin into the table if you need to. I have a large drapery work table, but same idea.

Maybe someone else can answer about the formica if you still want to use that.

I see no problem using the thinner laminate as long as there is an stable foundation and there will be no heavy objects/blows to the laminate.
