I am finishing a bathroom that was plumbed in 53 years ago.
I adapted the 1-1/2" drain to a 2" shower drain. The tub and toilet supply lines are galvinized pipe (the shower supply is copper pipe). Anyway, the toilet drain is a lead pipe and appears to be approx. 4" in diam. I heard that the pipe should be beaten with a hammer (outward) to form a flange. Is that correct, and if so, what next.
Thanks

The Lead pipe should be beaten into a small cube and recycled. You could probably get cash for it too. Replace it with ABS. If you have to cut the cast iron stack, rent a cutter and get very explicit instructions on using it. Cut out about 2 feet of the stack and replace that section with ABS also using rubber clamps. put some vasaline inside the rubber, it wont leak and the rubber will last forever.Of couse, before installing the ABS on the stack, glue a TY in the middle of it for your toilet.
