I have a shower curtain rod that is rusting (stainless steel my a**), I installed it several years ago if I remember right with screw-in brackets that the finials snapped over. But for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the finals or the rod off. The rod doesn't seem spring-loaded. Don't really want to pry the finials out because it will damage the drywall.
Any ideas or experience with these? Should the finials just slide back on the rod?.
Maybe a few pictures of the problem rod ends would be helpful. Close up and entire shower pictures so the experts can see what you see. There are too many kinds of shower rods to be able to answer without a picture.
Your rod may twist to extend or retract. Turning the two halves should tell. Then the things on the wall can be nailed, screwed or held in place with adhesive tape though sometimes they are just held in place by the rod's tension.
If your memory is correct look for a small cutout along the edge of the finial/cover.
This is where you insert a screwdriver and twist to remove it.
If the wall has been painted since the finial has been installed cut around it with a knife so you do not pull up paint when removing it.
get a thin piece of metal if you need to pry onto the drywall.
Try using a putty knife.
Problem solved but I though you'd like to hear the story. The finials finally came off with a twist, no prying involved. The finials just slid back on the rod once they were released. The rod simply slides to length (no threads or springs), with a slot that fits over a little hook in the nylon-plastic hanger (see photo) to hold it in place. Kind of clever, but not intuitive!
To follow up, frankly I can't understand the prevalence (say, on Amazon) of the spring-pressure type of mount, which inevitably fall down and end up damaging the wall. I would like to replace this rod with another of the same type that fits over a screw-in mount.
Of course the ideal would be to replace only the finials. The rod itself has not rusted as you can see.
Don't know if this is a standard mounting arrangement and I don't have the brand. Does anyone know if it would make sense to try to find replacement finials? Or at least a complete rod with finials that could use the same wall mount plates?
That's not really a finial.... it's more of an escutcheon or pipe rosette. They are available in the home improvement stores as pipe escutcheons. They cover the hole in the wall. They come in different finishes and sizes.
I have removed the vinyl tiles for my upstair bathroom. I can put in porcelain tiles for the flooring but prefer something lighter. I know that laminates are not good for bathrooms since they do not do well in a moisture environment.
What would be some options?
We just had Silestone quartz countertops installed to replace laminate and I need to fill between the quartz and the tile - ranging from 3/16 - 1/4" gap. I don't want to use just plain silicone caulking, and I tried the sanded silicone caulking, but I am horrible at caulking (yes, even with masking) and I find the sanded caulking even worse. So I have settled on grouting with Polyblend sanded grout that will match the existing grout of the backsplash.
So what I can't see to find is whether I need to protect the quartz from the grout while I am grouting. If I Google it, I can see lots of info on how to remove grout (or haze) from quartz, but not sure if that is because it was allowed to dry for too long or something.
As a rule, should I be masking and protecting the quartz from the grout?
Thanks in advance!
