Above Refrigerator Cabinet

I’m planning to add a cabinet above our refrigerator that will go to the ceiling. Is there a standard height off the floor for this cabinet? I would hate for a future refrigerator to not fit.

Thanks!

72 inches is pretty safe. There may be some special models taller than that, but most are not. You can use a filler plate and ogee molding under the cabinet if setting the cabinet at 72 leaves a big gap from your current fridge. You want a couple of inches of opening for ventilation but more than that starts to look odd. Attach the filler and molding (if used) with trim screws where they won't be visible, and then the filler and molding are easily removed should you get a taller fridge.

The top of most 30" wall cabinets is 84" FF (from finish floor). The bottom of a 36x15x12 wall cabinet would be 69". So no matter how tall your cabinets are, the bottom of the cabinet above the fridge should probably not be less than 69" FF.
