I wanted to tile my hallway so I tore out the carpet and found out that the hardwood floor underneath is buckled in one spot about 3/8 of an inch. The floor seems solid when I jump on it. I tried to screw it back down and that failed to work. Because it appears solid would I have problems if I leveled the buckled area with thinset and 1/4 backerboard over that?

Hello, I would take a skill saw and cut some knerfs in the hard wood then try to pull it down with screws.
