Are you replacing one, or putting one in from scratch?
If the installation is from scratch, you have to cut a hole in the ceiling to mount the fan housing between ceiling joists, which should be on 16" centers. You will probably have to re-finish the ceiling around it (sheetrock?), unless you cut it perfectly to begin with and you can get to it from above.
You will have to run the attached fan vent line (probably 3" flex) to a covered exhaust vent on a wall or through the roof. It has to be vented to the outside.
If it is run through an unheated attic, you will have to insulate the vent line to prevent condensation from running back down through your fan in the winter.
You will need to run 110v electrical wiring from a wall switch to the fan, AND another switched line to the light, if one is included in the unit.
This job is much easier if you have an attic above it, rather than living space. If we can help you, just come back on this same thread and ask.
Good Luck!
