Question bathtub leaks & not diverting fully to shower

I have 2 problems with my bathtub, (1) the bathtub only diverts about 2/3 to the shower and the other 1/3 runs out of the bathtub spout. (2) The bathtub is dripping every few seconds. What needs to be done to fix this?

Also, the bathtub has a single rotating knob to turn water on and off. If I wanted to replace it with double handles, what would that entail?

Thank you,
Sheila

Cool

1. You need to replace the diverter spout:

Get a one-size-fits-all diverter spout of your choosing.
Unscrew the old one counter-clockwise from the threaded pipe sticking out of the wall.
Wrap 2-3 flat turns of teflon tape clockwise only around the male threads of that wall pipe.
Cover the new diverter with a cloth to keep from marring it, and tighten it onto the pipe.
2. Depending upon the type and brand, you probably just need to replace the cartridge in the control. This can be done by removing the handle from the tub/shower side.

To convert a faucet from single to double-handle, you will have to replace the entire faucet body.
This will entail going into the wall behind the faucet, and probably soldering if you have copper pipes.
Good Luck!
