How do I wash sliding windows
Our house has all sliding windows. On all the windows except the picture windows, all the panes slide. The storm window is a separate unit, attached to the inside of the window frame. When we wash the windows, we have to use the outside cleaning product and spray the windows from the outside. One person stands outside with the garden hose, while another stands inside moving windows back and forth. We never get the windows nicely clean because that product can only do so much. We are not able to dry the windows because the screen cannot be removed without removing the entire storm window unit. That is impossible to do because we live in a bi-level and we have no way to easily do it without renting scaffolding. We were told sliding windows lift out of the frame. Ours do not. Another problem is the picture windows - the middle pane doesn't move, either on the storm unit or the inside windows, so we can never clean the inside of the storm or window itself. Help.

Sounds like a reason to replace them with double pane windows that don't require a storm. I do know replacement vinyl windows in the slider version DO lift out for cleaning.....and the screen stays in the outside track unless you just WANT to take it out.
One tip you might try with yours......some of the sliders I've installed have a certain point in the travel of the sash that it will lift out, and ONLY at that point. There is a "notch" in the top track, like an inch or so of it cut out, and the end of the window sash that has the interlock ( the pc that cupps to the other sash when closed) must go up in that notch in order to lift the sash out....and SOMETIMES they have a pc of vinyl covering the notch so it doesn't look ugly, and you have to remove that cover to see the notch and use it. Look for something like that in your windows. Just a thought.....
