Question Replacement window in New opening

I am wanting to replac an existing 22" x 72" window with a new double hung 36" x 48" window. I have the ability to do the framing for the new window size. I can get a replacement vinyl window for the size I need I just need to know if I can use a replacement window in this case or does it need to be a "new" construction window. If I can use the replacement window how would I go about installing it.

TIA
Ryan

Assuming you're talking a vinyl replacement, I use them in new construction.....I go to HomeDepot and buy the "mis-measures" for less than 1/2 of new price, then frame the opening to match the size of the window.

I set mine out flush with the sheathing, then add a 2x2 for "brickmould" and wrap it with trim coil. You could use regular or vinyl brickmould if you don't have the means to wrap, caulk the joint where they meet, and then run your siding material up to that.

All vinyl replacements are installed with screw in the side jambs....they generally have predrilled holes, one near the top of the inside sash track and one near the bottom of the outside track ....may be behind a removable cover.

You'll probably have to make an extension jamb on the inside, since the window is 3 1/4" deep.....I use 2x6 studs, so my jamb is several inches back to the wall plane.
