Question

At the hardware store I bought a couple sets of "replacement tracks" for my old (not in great shape) double hung windows that do have storms. My thought is that instead of replacing the 36 windows in my two unit, I would buy these tracks, put insulation in where the weights hung, and rework the sashes to the best of my limited ability. I simply can't afford to purchase/install 36 replacement windows. Any thoughts? (Selling the building won't be an option for awhile)

Thumbs down

If they're the tracks that depend on friction to hold the sashes up you're going to find that they slide down when the weather is dry and bind when the weather is damp. If you must go that route, they do have some with springs built in or tracks where you add spiral balances. This system is far better.
