Not enough room to open kitchen door

1959 tri-level, 9x6 kitchen and 9x6 breakfast room. We have one of those old "Mr. Ed" doors - you can swing the top open. It's actually a neat door; however, it's old and not functional.

We have to keep the table pushed up against a wall and it is very inconvenient to try and get in and out onto the deck.

There is not enough room for a sliding door - I would really like a french door that opens out but then my husband said we wouldn't be able to have a screen - any ideas?

I'm no expert on dutch doors, but have you thought of reversing the hardware on them so that the doors swing out? You could then install a custom-made half-screen door on the inside of the upper half that swings in over the table maybe. Or, install a French door that swings out and an outside sliding screen door that closes over the opening when the French door is wide open to the other side. Just ideas.
